News Brief
TMC MP Mahua Moitra
The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea filed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra challenging the notice asking her to vacate government-allocated residence following her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
The court advised Moitra to seek resolution through the Directorate of Estate, a department under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs responsible for overseeing and managing central government properties, including accommodations, according to a report from Hindustan Times.
In response to her plea, the court instructed Moitra to approach the Directorate of Estate for permission to retain her government residence beyond the specified date of 7 January.
Additionally, the court emphasised that any eviction actions should strictly adhere to the provisions of the law.
Moitra, recently expelled from the Lok Sabha, filed a petition in the Delhi High Court on 18 December challenging the cancellation of her government accommodation and the directive instructing her to vacate the premises by 7 January 2024.
Yesterday (3 January), the Supreme Court had declined to examine the expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha. This decision dealt a setback to the leader, who is currently entangled in allegations of cash-for-query linked to businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
