News Brief
Senior Congress leader, Salman Khurshid.
The race to make the most outlandish comparison, with respect to Rahul Gandhi, continues in the Congress party.
In the latest news, former union minister and senior Congress leader, Salman Khurshid, compared party leader Rahul Gandhi to Lord Ram and the Congress to "Bharat" during a press conference on Monday (26 December).
Khurshid also compared the Congress' efforts to those of Lord Ram, saying that while Lord Ram's "khadau" (shoes) go far, sometimes "Bharat" (the Congress) must carry the "khadau" to certain places. "We have carried the 'khadau' in Uttar Pradesh. Now that 'khadau' has reached Uttar Pradesh, Ram ji (Rahul Gandhi) will also come," he added.
When asked about the Union Health Ministry's letter to Gandhi requesting adherence to COVID-19 protocols during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Khurshid said that the party will follow any universal guidelines issued, but there cannot be exclusive guidelines for the Congress.
While commenting on Gandhi donning a half sleeves T-shirt in extreme cold weather, Khurshid stated that he is "superhuman" and likened him to a yogi doing 'tapasya' as he travels through the country for the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
In the last few days, a number of Congress leaders have praised Gandhi's T-shirt look, going to the extent of calling him worthy of heading the nation, since he could tolerate the bitter cold better than others.
