At the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s national executive meeting on Tuesday (17 January), JP Nadda's term as BJP national president was extended until June 2024.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that under Nadda's leadership, the party will secure an even greater mandate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a former party president, proposed the extension, which was unanimously approved by the executive. The extension highlights the party's desire for continuity as it prepares for the crucial Lok Sabha polls next year.

With Nadda set to lead the party during the Lok Sabha elections, he will be following the footsteps of his predecessor Shah, whose tenure was also extended so as to allow him to spearhead the organisation during the 2019 polls.

Shah expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Nadda, the party will secure an even greater victory than in the last general elections.

He praised Nadda for his leadership, particularly for connecting the party organization with service to the people during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Union Home Minister also highlighted the party's success in several state assembly polls under Nadda's leadership.

JP Nadda was appointed as the National general secretary of the BJP in 2014. In a cabinet reshuffle under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he was given the charge of Ministry of Health.

In 2019, he was appointed as the national working president of the BJP and in 2020, he was elected as the National President of the party, succeeding Amit Shah.
