ONGC Commences 'First Oil' Production From Flagship Deep-Water Project In Krishna-Godavari Basin

India's state-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has marked a significant achievement on Sunday (7 January) as it initiated oil production from its flagship deep-water project in the Krishna Godavari basin, located offshore the nation's eastern coast.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced the milestone on social media, declaring it as the commencement of "First Oil" production from the challenging deep-water KG-DWN-98/2 Block situated off the coast of the Bay of Bengal.
Puri expressed optimism about the nation's energy production, stating, "as India powers ahead as the fastest-growing economy under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, our energy production is also set to rise from the deepest frontiers of #KrishnaGodavari."
The Union minister also revealed that the production from the KG-DWN-98/2 Block is anticipated to reach 45,000 barrels per day and over 10 million cubic meters of gas per day.
This significant output is expected to contribute towards an energy self-reliant India, aligning with the vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
Highlighting the project's national impact, Puri emphasised, "this project is expected to add 7 per cent to current national oil production and 7 per cent to national Natural Gas production!"
