Parliamentary Disruption Leads To Suspension Of 78 More Opposition MPs; Total 92 Lawmakers Suspended In This Session

On Monday, a record-breaking number of suspensions occurred in Parliament, with 78 Opposition MPs – 33 from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha – being suspended.
This is in addition to the 14 Opposition MPs (13 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha) who were suspended last week, bringing the total number of suspensions this session to 92.
The lawmakers are facing consequences for causing disturbances in the House sessions.
Opposition members have been vocal in their protest against the security breach in Parliament that occurred on 13 December, insisting on a statement from the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, followed by a discussion.
Some lawmakers have even demanded Shah's resignation and called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be present in Parliament to give a statement.
Till now, the record for the most MPs suspended in a single day was set on March 15, 1989. On this day, 63 Opposition members were suspended from Lok Sabha over presentation of the inquiry commission report on the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
The lawmakers who were suspended on Monday comprise of prominent Opposition leaders such as Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, T R Baalu and Dayanidhi Maran from DMK, and Saugata Roy from TMC ( all members of Lok Sabha).
Additionally, Congress members Pramod Tiwari, Jairam Ramesh, K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala, along with Ram Gopal Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (all members of Rajya Sabha) were also suspended.
