At least 15 people are feared dead following a horrific landslide in Raigad on 19 July night.

The disaster took place at Irshalwadi village in Khalapur tehsil around 11pm, as reported by officials.

According to a report in The Hindu, over 70 individuals have been successfully rescued yet.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who quickly arrived at the village, stated, "Around 15-20 people are feared dead in the Raigad landslide. Rescue operations are being carried out urgently, but the inclement weather is causing difficulties for air rescues".

In response to reports of approximately 100 individuals being trapped, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been dispatched to the site.

According to an official, a hospital in Navi Mumbai has admitted over 20 people who were injured in the landslide.

In view of continuous heavy rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra the government has released an advisory stating that “The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a heavy rainfall warning for some districts in the state. There has been a downpour for the last two days as well. The citizens should not venture out unnecessarily”.
