A freight train
Continuing with the growth trajectory, Indian Railways has registered stupendous freight performance in July 2021 by achieving yet again the highest ever goods loading in the month which has continued for the last 11 months since September 2020.
Despite the pandemic situation, the Railways has achieved the highest ever incremental freight loading of 17.54 million tonnes (MT) in July 2021 (an increase of 18.43 per cent over July 2020).
The national transporter has recorded a total loading of 112.72 MT as against an earlier best of 99.74 MT in July 2019 and 95.18 MT in July 2020.
With the upward momentum in the freight sector, the increase in coal loading was 9.31 MT, 2.31 MT in cement, 0.45 MT in steel, 1.81 MT in iron ore, 0.88 MT in raw material for steel and 0.43 MT in foodgrains.
The freight loading was 451.97 MT in the current fiscal (2021-22) as against 336.74 MT up to July 2020.
While the overall earnings from freight has increased with more goods loadings, the improved performances have reflected on all zones also.
The average speed of freight trains has also increased from 40 kmph to over 46 kmph in Northern Railway.
