News Brief
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi
On Wednesday (3 January), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated searches at 31 sites in Rajasthan and Haryana, linked to the assassination of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena leader, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, which occurred last month, according to sources close to the situation.
On 5 December 2023, Gogamedi was assassinated in his home by three attackers, leading to demonstrations in Rajasthan. The murder was claimed by gangster Rohit Godara, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, in a social media post. He stated that Gogamedi was supporting his adversaries.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to assume responsibility for the investigation, with the aim of exploring the potential of a broader conspiracy.
An unnamed official has revealed that a federal agency, after filing a case, has reportedly interrogated several suspects. The searches conducted on Wednesday are understood to be a result of this questioning.
Two shooters implicated in Gogamedi's murder were apprehended by Jaipur Police in Chandigarh, five days following the incident.
Bishnoi, a gangster who has been in detention since 2015, has managed to run his criminal terror organisation from various prisons across different states.
The NIA is currently conducting investigations into the activities of the Bishnoi gang across different regions of the country and overseas, particularly their alleged affiliations with pro-Khalistan elements.
