News Brief
Govinda joins Shiv Sena
Bollywood actor Govinda joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in Mumbai on Thursday (28 March) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"I was in politics from 2004 to 2009. That was the 14th Lok Sabha. It is a coincidence that now after 14 years, I am coming back to politics," Govinda said highlighting infrastructure development under CM Shinde.
Govinda was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Mumbai North on a Congress ticket in 2004. He might not get a chance to contest again from here, as BJP, in alliance with Shiv Sena, has fielded Union Minister Piyush Goyal from here.
Political observers say that he might get a ticket from Mumbai North-West, where the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded sitting MP (now in Eknath Shinde-led Shive Sena) Gajanan Kiritkar's son Amol Kirtikar.
Since, Gajanan Kiritkar is 80 years old, he might retire from active politics, rather than contesting against his son.
