In a notable shift, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have reported a higher number of foreign militants neutralised compared to local terrorists for the first time, as per reports by Economic Times.

Out of the 72 terrorists eliminated by security forces in 2023, 50 were of foreign origin, said officials concerned with the matter on Monday (1 January).

However, central agencies' assessments indicate that 91 militants, including 61 foreigners, are still active in Jammu and Kashmir, presenting an ongoing challenge for security forces, particularly in the Rajouri-Poonch region.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to review the overall security situation in J&K, including the recent ambush on army personnel in the Rajouri-Poonch region.

In 2022, security forces successfully eliminated 187 terrorists, with 57 of them being of foreign origin, primarily Pakistanis.

The Rajouri-Poonch region has witnessed a series of terror attacks, including incidents in January, April, May, November, and December, resulting in both civilian and military casualties.

The security forces, in collaboration with local police and national agencies, have intensified anti-terror operations across J&K to dismantle terror networks and ensure the safety of the region.

The review by Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to provide strategic insights into addressing the evolving security landscape in the union territory, particularly in regions presenting new challenges to security forces.
