At least 60 people were killed and over 100 injured in a terrorist attack at a concert venue in Moscow, Russia.

Terrorist outfit Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its fighters attacked "a large gathering" on Moscow's outskirts and "retreated to their bases safely".

Video footage from the site of the attack, the Crocus City Hall concert venue, shows the vast complex, which is home to both the music hall and a shopping centre, on fire with smoke billowing into the air.

State-run RIA Novosti reported the armed individuals “opened fire with automatic weapons” and “threw a grenade or an incendiary bomb, which started a fire.”

They then “allegedly fled in a white Renault car,” the news agency said.

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that 115 people were hospitalised.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has wished all those injured in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack a recovery and conveyed compliments to medical staff, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said.

"We together with [Russian Health Minister] Mikhail A. [Murashko] reported to the president on the state of health of patients, the president wished all a recovery and conveyed compliments to doctors," she told the media.

The US called the attack "terrible" and said there was no immediate sign of any link to the conflict in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the terror attack in Moscow.

"We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the Russian Federation in this hour of grief," PM Modi said in a post on X.
