Amir Sarfaraz Tamba, an accused in the murder of Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh and an associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Sayeed, was killed by unidentified gunmen today (14 April) in Lahore.

The incident occurred in the Islampura area of Lahore where Tamba was targeted by motorcycle-borne assailants, PTI reported.

He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.

Tamba, born in Lahore in 1979, was accused in the 2013 attack on Sarabjit Singh inside the high-security Kot Lakhpat jail.

However, Sarfaraz was acquitted by a Pakistani court in 2018, citing "lack of evidence" against him.

Singh, who was serving a death sentence on charges of involvement in several bombings in Pakistan's Punjab province in 1990, a claim his family and Indian authorities denied, was assaulted by a group of prisoners wielding bricks and iron rods.

He fell into a coma and died nearly a week later due to a heart attack at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.

The murder of Singh had escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, with allegations from the Indian side that Singh was the victim of a planned attack.
