13 people were arrested in Bihar over the suspicion of paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) exam. Of them, four have confessed to the paper leak, NDTV reported.

Of the four candidates arrested, one Anurag Yadav said that he received the paper a day before the exam for admission to medical colleges and was made to read and memorise it at night.

"When I went for the exam, I found the same questions which I had memorised correctly. After the exam, the police came and caught me, and I confessed my crime," Yadav said.

Another accused, Sikandar Yadavendu, who acted as a middleman between the paper leak gang and students said that the other two accused, Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand promised that they could get the paper leaked.

Yadavendu works as a junior engineer at the Danapur municipal council. He asked Rs 40 lakh from each student in exchange of the question paper, while Kumar and Anand had asked for Rs 30 lakh.

"On 4 May night, I took four boys with me and Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand gave them the question paper," Yadavendu said accepting that out of greed, he wanted to get Rs 10 lakh commission in this deal.

He was arrested with the admit cards of the students during a vehicle check the next day of the exam and subsequently confessed his crime during the Bihar Police interrogation.

Notably, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had earlier rejected the allegations of paper leak but the Narendra Modi government seems to be bowing down to the reality after more details emerged.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting at his residence to discuss NEET irregularities where he was briefed about FIRs in Bihar and that the Bihar SIT probe suggests the paper leak.
