Skill Mapping Drive Of Returnee Migrant Workers Will Strengthen Their Motherland Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Adityanath   

Raising his pitch on using the skills and talents of the migrant workers who have returned to Uttar Pradesh amid the nationwide lockdown, Yogi Adityanath has said that their hard work will now strengthen their motherland.

Yogi Adityanath was referring to the steps taken by his government that will ensure job security, livelihood and emotional security to the migrants who have returned.

Among these steps is the preparation of the first list of the skill mapping of the migrant workers who have returned.

Amid the hardships faced by the returning migrant workers during the nationwide lockdown in other states, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has released its first skill map to help those migrants who have reached the state. The Yogi Adityanath government has said that it will provide jobs to the migrants who have returned, as per their skill and experience.

The setting of the Migrant Commission by the UP government is a step towards helping the Migrant workers find jobs and emotional security in their own state. The preparing of the skill map of the migrants will work towards knowing the arena of work they would find employment in.

The UP government has been working to provide jobs to the 23-24 lakh workers who have returned to the state so far. Yogi Adityanath had directed his officials to start the process of profiling migrant workers at the district level to map the skills of migrant workers.

A large number of these workers contribute their skills to the construction sector. As per reports, their number is 1.52 lakh. Within this sector, arenas and the people strengths have been identified.

These include painters, carpenters, fitting workers. Others such as drivers, electricians, fitting workers and those with the skills needed for the auto-repair mechanics, electrics and electronics, too, have been identified. Home decoration, para medics and beauticians, carpet makers, among others have been accounted for.

Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awathi has said 12,103 workers are associated with the tailoring and garment sector. This report quotes Awasthi as saying: "if garment hubs can be built in Bangladesh and Vietnam, then why not in Uttar Pradesh.”

Work on skill mapping is set to expand in the coming days.
