The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), Communist Party of India (CPI), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have announced that they will not attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building, which is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28 (Sunday). Further, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and K.C. Venugopal have expressed reservation over the Prime Minister inaugurating the building instead of the President.

Previously, Congress chief Kharge accused BJP of reducing the President's office to a symbolic representation.

Derek O'Brien, Rajya Sabha TMC leader, announced the party's decision on Twitter. He stated in his tweet that, 'Parliament is not just a new building and it holds old traditions, values, and rules that are vital to Indian democracy. For him, Sunday's inauguration of the new building is all about "I, ME, MYSELF" attitude. So count us out.'

AAP too cited disappointment as the President was not inaugurating the Parliament building.

Notably, all MPs had received invites on Tuesday (May 23) for the inauguration event.
