Uttarakhand To Launch First Helicopter Emergency Medical Service From AIIMS Rishikesh, Here's All About It

India is preparing to launch its inaugural Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) from the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, as per a report by The Economic Times.
The HEMS initiative aims to extend medical assistance and trauma care services to a wider population across the country using helicopters.
During a meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed the progress of the HEMS project, stating, "The HEMS request from AIIMS Rishikesh is in progress, with helicopter assembly and certification underway under my supervision."
The new HEMS, operating under the 'Sanjeevani' project, will have a service radius of 150 kilometres.
Scindia emphasised the significance of this service, stating, "Upon activation, helicopters will be stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, covering a 150 km radius, ensuring timely transportation of accident victims and patients from difficult terrains to AIIMS."
Additionally, Scindia announced the commencement of another project, responding to the state government's request for air connectivity from Hindon Air Base to Pithoragarh.
"The bidding process for this route has been completed, and the specific route will be awarded after further investigation under the UDAN scheme," he said.
These initiatives are expected to be transformative for Uttarakhand, particularly considering its challenging terrain.
