Vyommitra: India To Send Female Robot To Space On Gaganyaan Test Flight Ahead Of Manned Mission

Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh recently revealed that India is set to launch Vyommitra, a female robot astronaut, ahead of the country's ambitious Gaganyaan project, which aims to showcase India's prowess in human spaceflight.
As reported by India Today, Singh unveiled the nation's trajectory in space exploration at the Aaj Tak Agenda forum, emphasising on not only outer space but also the depths of the ocean.
The Gaganyaan project's test flight carrying Vyommitra is scheduled for next year, paving the way for a manned mission.
Additionally, the Deep Sea Mission, expected within three years, will explore deep-sea resources, positioning India as a multifaceted player in both space and ocean exploration.
Singh highlighted the rapid growth of India's space sector, projecting its value to reach $40 billion by 2040, with some international estimates reaching $100 billion.
He also cited the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which made a historic discovery of water molecules on the moon's surface at a fraction of the cost compared to other international moon missions.
Acknowledging the leadership roles women are taking in major space projects, Dr Singh emphasised that space technology in India goes beyond exploration, influencing everyday life in disaster management, infrastructure development, agriculture, telemedicine, and robotic surgery.
The upcoming launch of Vyommitra marks a pivotal moment in India's space journey, symbolising the nation's commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in space exploration.
