Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday (17 January) approved helicopter services from six districts of the state to Ayodhya for Ram Mandir pilgrims, Jagran reported.

Adityanath will himself flag helicopter service from Lucknow for Ayodhya. Other five districts that will cater to helicopter services are Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mathura and Agra.

These helicopters will have a capacity of five passengers. Each passenger will be allowed to carry a luggage of 5 kg along and will have to pay Rs 3,500 for this service.

However, ET Infra differs on this information and says quoting a government statement, "These helicopters will have the capacity to carry eight to 18 passengers and the devotees will have to pre-book the helicopter ride."

Services from Lucknow are expected to start on 19 January and it will take 30-40 minutes to reach Ayodhya by helicopter. A total of six helicopters have been arranged and three each will fly from Lucknow and Ayodhya.

After the inauguration of Ram Mandir on 22 January, pilgrims will start pouring into Ayodhya. Hence, to ease their travel, these helicopter services are the latest addition to air connectivity.

Last week, Adityanath inaugurated IndiGo's flight between Ayodhya Dham and Ahmedabad. This initiated the air connectivity to a second city after air service between Ayodhya and New Delhi.
