Aligarh To Be Renamed As Harigarh? Municipal Corporation Approves Name Change, Proposal Sent To Uttar Pradesh Govt

Aligarh Municipal Corporation approved the proposal to change the city's name to Harigarh. This proposal has now been sent to the Uttar Pradesh government. Aligarh's Mayor Prashant Singhal has expressed hope that the Yogi Adityanath-led administration will approve it soon.

According to Aaj Tak, Mayor Prashant Singhal mentioned that a proposal was put forth during a Municipal Corporation meeting to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh, and it was unanimously passed.

Notably, names of several railway stations were changed during the tenure of the Yogi government. The name of Mughalsarai railway station was changed to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction, and Jhansi railway station was renamed as Veerangana Lakshmibai Railway Station.

To change any city's name, first, it has to be approved by the municipal corporation and is then sent to the state government which issues gazette notification after approval.
