The BJP on Wednesday (18 October) unveiled its candidates for 12 assembly seats in Mizoram, scheduled for elections on 7 November.

All of the BJP's nominated candidates hail from constituencies reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) as 39 out of the 40 constituencies in Mizoram are reserved for STs.

In a separate announcement, Bhavna Bohra was named as the party's candidate for the Pandaria assembly seat in Chhattisgarh, where voting will take place in two phases on 7 November and 17 November.

Bohra is the state general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha. The announcement takes the total count of declared candidates to 86 in the 90-seat assembly.

The approval of these candidates came from the BJP's central election committee, comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party national president JP Nadda.

As a member of the coalition led by Mizo National Front chief Zoramthanga in Mizoram, the party secured one seat in the 2018 Assembly elections as Buddha Dhan Chakma won in the Tuichawng seat.

Interestingly, the BJP released its list of candidates for Mizoram just a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to the state.
