Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (17 January) expressed his disappointment over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries getting involved in “unproductive” controversies such as making “unwarranted” remarks on the content of a film.
Speaking at the party’s two-day National Executive meeting, PM Modi said that “Several good deeds and accomplishments are overshadowed as some of us wade into unnecessary controversies like making controversial statements about the content of a film, which sets a different narrative, setting headlines for the next 48 hours,” while suggesting that leaders who repeatedly made such remarks should refrain from such behaviour.
PM Modi also asked BJP members to reach out to every section of society, including minorities such as Bohras, Pasmandas, and Sikhs, and work for them without electoral considerations. He also said that with the 2024 elections approaching, the party has little time to lose.
“We have 400 days left to connect with the poor of all communities and to ensure that our policies designed to provide saturation benefits to them have helped all,” he reportedly said.
