A case has been registered against actor and Jana Sena Party (JSP) founder Pawan Kalyan saying that village and ward volunteers are behind the disappearance of thousands of women in the state.

He said that as per information he had received from central intelligence agencies, the data collected is being misused for crimes like human trafficking.

'30,000 women and girls from the state went missing and only 14,000 have returned, what happened to the rest?", he asked.

The remarks were made at a public meeting in Eluru.

Kalyan also asked Chief Minister Jagan why was the data of people from Andhra Pradesh being stored with an agency in Hyderabad and who would be responsible if the data is misused.

He added that there have been instances of volunteers misbehaving with women, being caught for theft, illegal liquor trade and threatening people that they would be removed from beneficiary lists.

The Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission has sent a notice to Kalyan asking him to explain his allegations and submit proof within 10 days.

The system of village and ward volunteers was instituted by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2019 with the purpose of taking welfare schemes of the government to the people.
