Former dacoit Malkhan Singh officially joined the ranks of the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday (9 August).

Malkhan Singh, renowned as a fearsome dacoit in the Chambal region for a span of two decades, ultimately surrendered in 1982.

In the presence of the state's Congress chief, Kamal Nath, and the leader of the opposition, Dr. Govind Singh, Malkhan Singh affirmed his commitment to the Congress.

He boldly predicted that the BJP's influence would be eradicated from the Gwalior-Chambal region in the imminent assembly polls.

Notably, Jyotiraditya Scindia is known to have a significant influence on the Gwalior-Chambal region. After he joined BJP in March 2020, Congress might have found itself in a weak position in this region.

In its pursuit of strengthening itself in the region, the Congress has now inducted Malkhan Singh who had earlier contested assembly election as a BJP candidate from Bhind in 2013.

On this significant occasion, Kamal Nath accused the incumbent BJP government of propagating fear and intimidation throughout its two-decade-long tenure. He expressed his confidence that the people had decisively resolved to vote out the BJP administration.

Sporting his distinctive handlebar mustache, Malkhan Singh informed the press that he had consistently fought against injustice and had previously campaigned for the BJP.

Furthermore, Malkhan Singh criticized the ruling authorities for their failure to curb crimes against women, asserting that BJP leaders had instilled a sense of terror among the populace.

A press release issued by the Congress stated that Santosh Sharma, a former education department official, along with 1,200 supporters, also officially joined the party.
