A few prominent personalities joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan ahead of the year-end assembly elections on Thursday (28 September).

Former minister Devi Singh Bhati is the most notable name among them. Swarajya had predicted his return to the BJP last year.

The seven-time MLA joined BJP in the presence of Rajasthan election in-charge Pralhad Joshi, state in-charge Arun Singh and state president CP Joshi in Jaipur.

Bhati left BJP after the 2018 assembly elections as he was opposing the candidature of the Bikaner MP Arjun Ram Meghwal in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Bhagchand Takda, a leader who has contested the assembly elections twice (as an independent in 2013 and on the BSP ticket in 2018) from Bandikui constituency in Dausa district, also joined BJP.

In 2018, Takda had secured 28 per cent of votes leading to BJP's defeat with a 32 per cent vote share against Congress' 35 per cent. The BJP had won this seat in earlier elections of 2013, 2008 and 2003.

Takda is a Saini by caste and BJP's candidate Ram Kishor, too was a Saini. The winning candidate, Gajraj Khatana is the vice president of Rajasthan Congress.
