First rescued worker
Concluding a mission spanning more than 400 hours, all 41 workers trapped in the Uttarakhand tunnel collapse were rescued safely.
They had been ensnared since 12 November. The 17-day-long ordeal tested the determination and persistence of the individuals on both sides of the 57 meters of debris.
Despite facing a series of setbacks throughout the rescue operation, the miners ultimately prevailed. When the drilling machine faltered, it was the miners who took up the task, digging through the final 12 meters to reach the trapped individuals.
Calling the courage and patience of trapped workers inspiring, he wished them well being and good health. "It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long wait these friends of ours will now meet their loved ones." he said.
He also appreciated the patience and courage of all these families and saluted the spirit of all the people associated with this rescue operation whose bravery and determination have given new life to workers.
"Everyone involved in this mission has set an amazing example of humanity and teamwork," Modi concluded his post.
