Mukesh Ambani with Mamata Banerjee
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), announced on Tuesday (21 November) that RIL has already invested approximately Rs 45,000 crore in West Bengal. He further stated that the company plans to make an additional investment of Rs 20,000 crore over the next three years.
At the Bengal Global Business Summit, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani revealed that Reliance Foundation will be responsible for the renovation and restoration of the renowned Kalighat Temple in Kolkata. Speaking at the event, Ambani made this announcement at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre during the seventh edition of the summit.
Ambani said, “Reliance Foundation is deeply committed to participate in the resurgence of West Bengal; a land of artistic and spiritual heritage; which is truly priceless. Therefore, I am pleased to inform you that Reliance Foundations have taken up an ambitious project to renovate and restore the famous Kalighat Temple in Kolkata.
"We are in the process of repairing the entire temple complex, including the century-old heritage structure, and restoring them to their original glory. This project is as close to Nita (Ambani) and my hearts as it is to yours. Thank you very much for this opportunity,” he added.
“West Bengal is one of the biggest investment destinations for Reliance. After you (Mamata Banerjee) invited me (to attend the 7th BGBS), Reliance has invested close to Rs 45,000 crore in West Bengal. Today I am happy to announce that we will invest an additional Rs 20,000 crore in the next three years,” said Ambani.
The business tycoon added that Reliance Jio has achieved a coverage of 98.8 per cent in the state while Kolkata is 100 per cent covered.
Reliance Retail is actively expanding in the state and has successfully reached over five lakh grocery store owners in the country through its platform, Jio Mart.
Ambani highlighted India's position as the leading producer of bio-energy and emphasised the country's progress and promotion of green energy in the bio-energy sector.
