Demolition drive continues in Haryana's Nuh (Representative image)
Authorities in Nuh district continued their demolition drive for the third consecutive day on Sunday (6 August), bulldozing a three-storey hotel.
According to local sources, the hotel had become a gathering point during recent clashes, with individuals pelting stones at the police.
In addition to the hotel, several shops near the Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College and Hospital were also demolished.
Shopkeepers claim that the anti-encroachment drive was conducted late at night without any prior notice being given to the vendors or shop owners.
On Saturday (5 August), a dozen shops and medical stores were also razed as part of the ongoing demolition drive in Nuh.
Congress MLA Ch Aftab Ahmed, representing the area, criticised the demolition drive in Nuh, deeming it illegal and arguing that it would not achieve anything. "The accused should be punished severely if found guilty, but demolishing houses, shops of the poor is not right," he said.
In Tigra village, sector 57 of Gurugram, a panchayat called by Hindu outfits is scheduled to commence on Sunday.
The Mahapanchayat has garnered significant attendance, as evidenced by a video released by news agency PTI.
The panchayat has been organised in protest against the arrests made after demonstrations erupted across the city following clashes in Nuh on 31 July.
The initial clash occurred when an attempt was made to halt a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, and tensions subsequently spread to Gurugram and other districts in the state. Police have implemented restrictions on outsiders entering the village.
The suspension of mobile internet service in Nuh and Palwal districts in Haryana, earlier extended to 5 August, has been pushed until 8 August. The decision to further extend the suspension was made on Saturday evening.
The suspension of mobile internet and SMS services was implemented following clashes that occurred in Nuh on 31 July.
