Uttar Pradesh’s women commission chief Meena Kumari has written to Aligarh (SP) Arvind Kumar seeking action on a complaint by a woman student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) against a fellow student, reports The Times of India.

The woman, a Hindu, gave the complaint to Aligarh senior superintendent of police (SSP) on13 July.

The complaint says that a fellow student of Bachelor in Architecture (BArch), Rakbar Danish, used uncivilised language against her on social media and she is scared to resume college because of him.

It further says that Danish is part of a group who has been harassing her for several months for supporting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and she is scared to resume college.

Even thought the complaint does not specify the objectionable comment, it is reliably learnt that on 9 July, Danish said to her on Facebook that he would force her to wear a “brass hijab”.

“Lockdown k bad INSHA’ALLH apko bhi hijab pahnaya jaega wo bhi peetal ka (after lockdown, you will also be made to wear a hijab, that too a brass one),” Danish wrote as a reply to a post by her in which she complained that women in AMU hostels are forced to cover themselves up and even Hindu women are not spared from the rule.

A friend of the complainant told Swarajya that the “brass hijab” could be a reference to bullets and thus he had advised her to take the threat seriously.

He also shared a screenshot of a text message sent by Danish to the woman in which he has said that she should stop playing “victim card” otherwise he would file a complaint against her for demeaning AMU.

The Times of India has quoted SP Arvind Kumar as saying that an FIR is likely soon and “appropriate IPC sections will be imposed in the FIR after the preliminary inquiry”.
