An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in the Naxal-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Monday resulted in injuries to a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and two members of a polling team.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 pm near Rengagondi village as they were en route to set up a polling booth in preparation for the first phase of Assembly elections scheduled for the following day in the state, Indian Express reported.

Four teams, consisting of BSF personnel, state police, and polling officials, had departed from the Marbeda police camp under the jurisdiction of Chotebetiya police station to reach Rengaghati for the polling station setup.

The IED was triggered when a member of the team unintentionally stepped on a pressure IED. The explosion resulted in injuries to BSF constable Chandraprakash Sewal and two polling team workers.

The injured individuals were promptly transported to Chotebetiya for medical treatment, and they are reported to be in stable condition. The rest of the team and security personnel safely reached the Rengagondi polling booth.
