Four persons linked with PFI arrested in Delhi

The continued crackdown on PFI activities has led to the arrest four persons allegedly linked to the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI) by Delhi Police today.

In a first since the central government banned the orgnisation and its allied ones as unlawful on 28 September, the arrests were made under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

As reported by PTI, a case has been registered against them at Shaheen Bagh police station under IPC sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) along with section 10 of the UAPA following certain information.

As per the FIR, the arrests have been made since they continued to indulge in unlawful activities even after the ban.

Post the ban, as the FIR mentions, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora had declared and notified that some addresses in Shaheen Bagh, Abdul Fazal Enclave and Jamia Nagar, were used for the purposes of carrying out unlawful activities of the PFI and its associates or affiliates.

But it was found that ’even after the said proscription and notification’ the arrested members, connected with the PFI and its allied organisations, who are ‘in continuation of their unlawful activities, are secretly conspiring to disrupt public order with the ultimate objective of targeting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India’.

They were found conspiring to cause massive disruption of public order by promoting communal enmity and were mobilising supporters for spreading incitement at various places of worship, stated the FIR.

Before the ban, during the nationwide crackdown, Delhi Police had conducted raids at PFI units spread across six districts of the city and detained 33 people said to have connections with the organisation.
