Intel Collaborates With Indian Companies For Local Manufacturing Of Laptops, To Meet Domestic & International Demand

Intel is expediting local manufacturing in India through a new collaboration with eight local companies, consisting of both Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs).
The semiconductor chip manufacturer intends to provide these companies with the necessary expertise to establish laptop manufacturing operations to meet both domestic and international demand, Indian Express reported.
This collaborative effort will result in the production of "complete" entry-level laptops in India, with Intel sharing its knowledge about Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines, assisting in the establishment of quality control processes for components, and benchmarking the finished products.
The companies partnered with Intel include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. Some of these companies are venturing into laptop manufacturing for the first time, according to Intel.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar praised this initiative, saying, "This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to drive India’s Digital Economy to $1 Trillion and enable the electronics manufacturing ecosystem to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26."
Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD of Intel’s India division, emphasised the company's commitment to enhancing electronic manufacturing capabilities in India by bringing in Intel's technology-related investments and global system supply chain ecosystem knowledge.
Furthermore, Intel is hosting the India Tech Ecosystem Summit in November, where it will unite numerous local manufacturers to showcase a broad range of devices being manufactured in India.
Back in May, the Union Cabinet initiated a Rs 17,000 crore incentive program aimed at stimulating domestic manufacturing in India. This initiative is anticipated to generate Rs 4.7 lakh crore in additional production value within a span of six years.
