In the backdrop of the terrorist attacks carried by Hamas on the civilian Israeli population, a delegation comprising 16 Indian opposition leaders, including parliamentarians and politicians, convened a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador in New Delhi.

They voiced solidarity with the Palestinians and underscored the necessity for heightened global efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.

The delegation issued a resolution insisting that the international community should exert pressure on Israel to comply with international laws and uphold the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.

They strongly condemned Israel's indiscriminate bombing in Gaza, asserting that it amounted to what they deemed an attempt at genocide.

The delegation urgently called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of innocent lives and the destruction of homes and infrastructure.

Additionally, the delegation urged the international community to acknowledge the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, in line with the United Nations resolution.

They emphasised that such recognition is a pivotal step towards achieving a just and enduring solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Bahujan Samaj Party MP Kunwar Danish Ali, a delegation member, emphasised their meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador aimed to clarify India's support for Palestine.

He noted a perception created by a social media post from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India stands with Israel.

The delegation stressed that India, indeed, supports Palestine.

Prime Minister Modi's post expressed shock over terrorist attacks in Israel, offering thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families while standing in solidarity with Israel during this challenging time.

Janata Dal-(United) spokesperson K C Tyagi mentioned their meeting with the Ambassador focused on their concerns regarding Israeli actions affecting children, the elderly, and hospitals.
