Liz Truss Announced As Next PM Of Britain, Defeats Rishi Sunak In Tory Leadership Race

Liz Truss has clinch the race to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson as Tory leader and Britain's new Prime Minister.

Truss, who currently serves as country's foreign secretary, defeated her rival Rishi Sunak by 81,326 votes to 60,399.

Truss will take over the prime ministerial mantle from Johnson tomorrow, after flying to Balmoral to see the Queen.

Addressing the conservative party members after she was declared the winner of the internal party elections, Truss says it is an honour to have been elected as party leader. She thanked the party staff “for organising one of the longest job interviews in history”.

She paid tribute to her rivals, particularly Sunak. She says they have shown “the breadth and depth of talent in the Conservative party”.

Truss also thanked her predecessor Johnson.

"Boris, you got Brexit done. You crushed Jeremy Corbyn, you rolled out the vaccine. And you stood up to Vladimir Putin. You were admired from Kyiv to Carlisle." Truss added.

Truss also spoke about her economic agenda.

"I will deliver a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy." Truss said.

"I will deliver on the energy crisis, dealing with people’s energy bills, but also dealing with the long term issues we have on energy supply." Truss added on her plans to tackle the grave cost of living crisis that has plunged Britain in to a deep economic crisis.

Truss's new cabinet is expected to be in take shape by tomorrow night. Kwasi Kwarteng is likely to be elevated as appointed chancellor.

Suella Braverman, the current attorney-general and former leadership contender, is likely to be picked as home secretary.
