On 1 November, the Supreme Court issued a directive to activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband, Javed Anand, instructing them to co-operate with the Gujarat Police regarding a case involving the alleged misappropriation of funds.
The Bench emphasised that while no charge sheet had been filed yet, cooperation from the respondents would be expected as and when required.
Additionally, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Setalvad, seeking the removal of certain remarks made by the Gujarat High Court in its 8 February 2019 judgment, when granting her anticipatory bail.
The case revolves around allegations of misappropriation of funds, which were lodged by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, following a complaint that accused Setalvad and Anand of obtaining grants totaling Rs 1.4 crore from the union government through their NGO Sabrang Trust, between 2008 and 2013.
