The Supreme Court on 14 October refused to hear a petition that sought blanket ban on firecrackers in the country.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of India UU Lalit told the petitioner that they should have approached the Court earlier. With the Diwali season approaching, this would cause heavy losses to the people.

CJI Lalit declined the matter, stating, "You come at the peak of time. Diwali is right around the corner. People have already invested in firecracker business and now injuncting this will lead to losses etc. You should have come few months earlier. Come after Diwali now."

On 13 October, the SC had refused to accord an urgent hearing to a plea against an order banning storage, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers in the national capital till 1 January 2023.

A bench of Chief Justice UU Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi asked the lawyer, who mentioned the matter seeking urgent hearing, to approach the Delhi High Court.
