Senthil Balaji case in Supreme Court
A Supreme Court bench of Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh has begun hearing pleas filed by minister Senthil Balaji and his wife Megala, challenging the verdict of the Madras High Court regarding the legality of his arrest and whether he could be taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
While Balaji and his wife are represented by senior advocate Kapil Sibal, the ED is being represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
The Division Bench of the Madras High Court, which was expected to decide the date on which the ED could take Balaji into custody, as per the judgement of Justice CV Karthikeyan, closed the case yesterday (25 July), citing the appeals pending in the Supreme Court.
