Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai, has reportedly told party members in a state-level meeting in Chennai that he is ready to resign from his post if the central leadership of the party decides to continue the alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Sources added that Annamalai felt the party could not grow further and project a corruption-free image if it continues the alliance with the AIADMK.

Further, they said that while Annamalai had spoken his mind, the final decision on the alliance would be taken by the BJP's Parliamentary Board.

This comes amidst the tussle between the AIADMK and the BJP that started after some BJP leaders like IT Wing head CTR Nirmal Kumar and state secretary Dilip Kannan left the party to join the AIADMK citing problems with the state leadership, especially Annamalai.

A few days back, AIADMK members in Ariyalur had burnt portraits of Annamalai alleging that he had dared to compare himself to former chief minister J Jayalalitha.

Reacting to the news, the AIADMK's D Jayakumar said that his party was the engine of the coalition and it knew which box to add or remove.

Annamalai has neither confirmed nor denied the statements being attributed to him.
