Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha

A speech made by GV Markandayan, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA from Vilathikulam in Tuticorin district saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were responsible for the death of former chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo J Jayalalitha has created a controversy in the state.

Markandayan, who was a member of the AIADMK during the time of Jayalalitha’s death, added that the reason for PM Modi wanting to kill Jayalalitha was her ambition to become the Prime Minister.

Sharing a clip of Markandayan's speech, BJP state president Annamalai said that DMK MLAs have always resorted to lies when there is anger against their misgovernance. Tagging Chief Minister MK Stalin, he added that the BJP would not remain quiet forever.

Jayalalitha died on 5 December 2016 after about 75 days of hospitalization. While she had multiple ailments like a pulmonary infection and sepsis, the cause of her death was determined to be cardiac arrest.

Speaking to Republic TV, Tamil Nadu BJP leader SG Suryah said that the party expected the DMK government to take action against the MLA but if it did not do so, the BJP would explore the legal options available to them.
