At a hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the status of Bills pending with Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that she had given her assent to three bills, two had been referred to the President, three were under her consideration and clarifications have been sought on two others.

The three bills had received assent a day before the Court hearing.

According to the BRS, these bills were pending with the Governor for several months and thus it was forced to seek the Court's intervention.

Appearing for Telangana, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave said that the Governor had created a 'constitutional impasse' by not acting on the Bills passed by the state assembly.

The three Bills that received assent are the Telangana Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Telangana Municipalities (Amendment Bill), 2023, and Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

The two Bills reserved for the President are University of Forestry Telangana Bill, 2022 and Telangana Universities Common Recruitment Board Bill, 2022.

This comes after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government got a resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly urging the President and the central government to fix a time limit for Governors to take decisions.

The DMK has been at loggerheads with Governor RN Ravi regarding pending bills, especially the one banning online rummy in the state. The bill received assent on 10 April after being passed by the Assembly for the second time.
