Election Voting Machine
The voting for 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh and the second and final phase in Chhattisgarh, which includes 70 seats, has commenced.
The focus is on the Congress and the BJP, both of which have been intensely competing over the past several months for political dominance.
In Chhattisgarh, this round of voting could significantly impact fate of prominent leaders such as Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo, along with eight state ministers and four parliamentarians.
The first election phase for 20 seats on 7 November witnessed a 78 per cent voter turnout.
Although the primary contest in the state is between the BJP and Congress, some areas, especially in the Bilaspur division, anticipate a triangular contest due to the influence of ex-Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's party and the BSP.
The electoral battle in Madhya Pradesh is primarily between the BJP and the Congress.
In the 2018 elections, Congress secured a victory with 114 seats out of 230, with the BJP, which had been in power for three consecutive terms under Shivraj Singh Chouhan, getting 109 seats.
However, a significant shift occurred when key Congress leaders from the Gwalior-Chambal region, led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, defected to the BJP, leading to a change in governance.
