The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) department has been accused of rudely replying to Twitter users who had questioned the work being carried out by it.

Replying to a tweet put out by the department regarding works being carried out near the Tiruchendur Muruga (Karthikeya) temple under the Tiruchendur master plan, a user said that the area falls in the Eco Sensitive Zone. The department replied saying that approvals necessary for the construction, i.e., Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) and Eco Sensitive Zone approvals have been taken.

When the user wrote back saying that the construction works could be harmful to the temple gopuram, and that is why there are restrictions on constructions near monuments, the department replied, saying that he could go and ask the authorities that gave the approval.

The user then wrote back saying that he won't ask the authorities because he feels that if they were really experts, they would not have granted permission and classified it as an area under CRZ- I.

To this, the department replied saying, 'We know how to take care of our Muruga.'

Likewise in the case of another tweet put out by the department regarding the increasing number of works undertaken by it, a person replied saying that the department had illegally occupied and looted temples.

To this the department replied saying that the person was 'jittery.'

The HRCE minister P Sekar Babu and the department were heavily criticised recently due to the murder of Krishnan, a temple staff in Tirunelveli, by some goons because he had objected to their drinking alcohol in the temple premises.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai had then said that the condition of temples in the state was poor because the department was more interested in the temple money and the minister wanted to please the DMK first family.
