Dear reader,

Possibly for the first time in English media, photojournalist Mahendra Tripathi recounts his firsthand experience, to Swarajya's Swati Goel Sharma, of a pivotal moment in Ayodhya's history.

On 2 November 1990, amid widespread unrest, Tripathi faced a tough choice between his family's safety and his duty to document the truth. Choosing the latter, he captured the aftermath of a police firing on karsevaks, a day that changed many lives, including those of the Kothari borthers.

His brave decision to venture into the heart of the turmoil resulted in powerful photographs that played a crucial role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
