What This Means: Uttar Pradesh — Countdown To 2027

Dear Reader,

The mood in Uttar Pradesh politics is similar to what it was in the aftermath of 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Or at least this is what political commentator Amit Yadav opined on the 'What This Means' podcast with my colleague Diksha Yadav.

With key by-elections around the corner in the state, Yadav contends that just like after the Lok Sabha polls, leaders and supporters of the SP are very positive and the BJP leaders and supporters are quite negative.

So, the latest episode of the 'What This Means' focusses on the aftermath of the Lok Sabha elections to the upcoming by-elections in key constituencies like Kundarki and Karhal.

With 10 by-elections set for this year, 5 previously held by SP, the outcome could shape the future narrative in the state. But will it directly impact the 2027 assembly elections?

The podcast also touches on shifts in voter bases—especially among Kurmi, OBC, and SC/ST communities—which are creating new equations.

With Yogi Adityanath personally steering the campaign in key constituencies and internal challenges faced by the BJP, the episode offers sharp analysis of what’s at stake for both parties.

Are the upcoming bypolls a test run for bigger changes within the BJP? Will the SP capitalize on its recent momentum, or is the BJP poised for a comeback?

Until tomorrow,
