From Rajasthan's Deserts to Manipur's Hills

'Swarajya' spoke to people in Dausa to gauge their electoral choices before the constituency goes to vote on 19 April

Dear Reader,

Today, we'd like to talk about two striking stories from our 50 Ground Reports Project, showcasing the contrasts and similarities in the aspirations of India's diverse regions.

In Dausa, Rajasthan, our reporter Ankit noticed a contrast between new roads being built as part of the ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the ongoing struggle for basic necessities. The expressway construction is expected to bring progress and better connections in the region, yes. But at the same time, people in the area are still facing problems with not having enough water.

This situation in Dausa shows how it's important to find a balance between building things quickly and making sure that development is sustainable and improves people's lives every day.

In the Northeast, specifically in Manipur, Jaideep's report show how the Meiteis are fighting to have a say in elections and hoping that the upcoming elections will help bring attention to their problems and make positive changes for them. For this, we had the chance to exclusively speak with displaced families from the Kuki-dominated hills of Manipur, now living in relief camps in the Imphal East district.

The stories from Dausa and Manipur represent bigger hopes and challenges shared by many areas in India. They show us why it's so important to have detailed, local journalism that brings these important issues to everyone's attention.

Your support can help us keep uncovering these crucial stories all over India. Your support helps bridge the gap between local problems and the larger conversations happening in the country.

Please think about supporting our mission - we'd like to continue writing from the wide landscapes of Rajasthan or about the intricate situations in the Northeast.
