Security forces in Manipur (File photo)
Following the implementation of curfew in all five valley districts of Manipur on Tuesday (5 September), authorities announced a relaxation in curfew timings a day later.
This is to enable the general public to purchase essential items such as medicines and food.
As per an official order issued on Wednesday (6 September), curfew has been relaxed from 5 am to 6 pm in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Kakching districts on Thursday (7 September).
The curfew relaxation in Thoubal district is extended until 8 pm, and in Bishnupur district, from 5 am to 11 am.
The official order regarding the curfew relaxation says it does not permit any form of gathering, sit-in protest, or rally without prior approval from the competent authority.
Tensions escalated on Wednesday when security forces fired teargas shells to disperse a large gathering of protesters at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur.
Over 40 people, mostly women, sustained injuries during the incident.
