Dear Listeners,
In the latest episode of What This Means podcast, we discuss RBI's big banking and capital reforms with Professor Prasanna Tantri, Associate Professor of Finance and Executive Director at the Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business.
He says: "Letting banks fund acquisitions is good — capital should move to efficient hands. But without fixing business bottlenecks, reforms alone won’t unleash real M&A activity."
While he welcomes the banking reforms, he calls the increase in IPO financing limits (from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh) "pouring oil on fire". He says, Allowing retail investors to borrow for IPOs is madness… You’re fuelling speculation, not investment."
In the second story we talk about how China plans to dominate the LAC on the What We Said podcast. China has begun laying the next section of its railway network to gird the entire Line of Actual Control (LAC), creating a steel backbone that will stretch from Aksai Chin in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the east. What does it mean for India? We discuss it here; tune in!
Your host,
Diksha Yadav
