SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav.
After UP police gunned down mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's son in an encounter in Jhansi on Thursday (13 April), Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has slammed the CM Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government over "fake encounters".
"By doing fake encounters, the BJP government is trying to divert attention from the real issues. The BJP does not believe in the court at all. Today's and recent encounters should also be thoroughly investigated and the culprits should not be spared. Those in power do not have the right to decide what is right or wrong. BJP is against brotherhood," Yadav tweeted in Hindi.
Yadav's tweet came after the UP police killed Atiq Ahmed's son Asad in an encounter in Jhansi.
Asad Ahmed and Ghulam, both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were killed in the encounter with UP Special Task Force (STF) team in Jhansi.
The police reportedly also recovered sophisticated foreign made weapons from them.
They reportedly opened fire on the police personnel and were killed in retaliatory firing.
Asad became the ‘most wanted’ man in Uttar Pradesh after leading half-a-dozen shooters who killed Umesh Pal in broad daylight on a busy street in Prayagraj on 24 February, reports News18.
Asad was the third son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and is said to have taken the reins of Atiq’s dreaded gang last August after his two elder brothers had surrendered in court.
