Hooghly Communal Violence: On Suvendu Adhikari's Plea, Calcutta HC Directs Bengal Government To Submit Report

Today, 4 April, 2023, the High Court of Calcutta has directed the West Bengal Government to submit a report on the clashes in Rishra in Hooghly, after lawyers representing Suvendu Adhikari mentioned the matter before a division bench of the High Court. 

The court also directed the BJP leader and leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly to submit a supplementary affidavit.

A bench headed by the acting CJ TS Sivagnanam has directed the state to file a short report on the incidents relating to unrest in Rishra district. This matter will be heard on 5 April, tomorrow, along with the PIL by Adhikari. 


Section 144 was imposed in the affected area and internet services were blocked. 

The Advocate General has assured the High Court that the situation in the impacted area is presently under control.
