After a rise in targeted attacks on minorities in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the officials to post PM Package employees and other members from minority communities in Kashmir at secure locations by 6 June.

The development comes as Kashmiri Hindu government employees have been protesting against the killing of a Hindu woman teacher Rajni Bala, who was shot dead by terrorists in Kashmir's Kulgam district on 31 May.

Earlier on 12 May, Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Hindu government employee, was shot dead by terrorists inside the tehsildar's office in Chadoora tehsil of Budgam district.

“The L-G chaired a high-level meeting of administrative heads, and senior police officers on Wednesday where he decided that PM package employees and others from minority communities posted in Kashmir division will be immediately posted at secured locations,” a top official in J&K Raj Bhavan was quoted in a Hindustan Times report as saying.

Of the 6,000 posts provided for Kashmir Hindu migrants under the PM Package, 5,928 are filled and 1,037 of them live in secured accommodations.

To ensure that the employees feel safe and secure, the LG has directed officials to initiate confidence building measures.

“He also asked senior officers to visit employees to understand their concerns first-hand. District commissioners (DCs) and SPs have been directed to actively monitor complaints of such employees,” sources were quoted in the HT report as saying.

The LG has also directed DCs and SSPs to carry out assessment of accommodation of the PM Package and minority employees.

"It has to be ensured that no employee works or reside in isolated areas or in a scattered manner,” the sources said.
