Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has shifted her stance and is now appealing to the weaker sections to exclusively support the BSP.

She believes that by doing so, no other alliance will be able to form a strong government at the Centre or in the States.

According to Mayawati, this will result in a "majboor (helpless)" government instead of a "majboot (strong)" one, which will be unable to oppress the weaker sections.

In a recent statement, the BSP supremo announced that the BSP will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the Assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana independently, without forming any alliances.

However, she made it clear that these parties should not have any affiliation with either the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Congress-led alliance of Opposition parties.

According to her, the BJP and Congress-led alliances have had similar intentions and policies towards marginalised communities such as Dalits, tribals, the poor, the backward community, Muslims, and other religious minorities.

Mayawati explained that the BSP has distanced itself from both the NDA and the Congress-led Opposition alliance because they have only made false promises regarding the welfare of the poor and weaker sections, without taking any substantial actions to support them.

She urged that there was no difference between the BJP’s “kathni aur karni" (what they say and what they do), just like the Congress.
